Advance Limit

The Advance Limit is the potential dollar amount, or maximum, available to advance to personnel within Local Dispatch and drivers in Long Distance Dispatch. The Advance Limit displays as the Max amount within the Add/Edit Advance dialog.

Advance Limit Calculation

The application computes the Advance Limit as following:

THE LESSER OF

The employee’s Line Haul Percentage of the Discounted Linehaul amount (or Estimate Amount on Office & Industrial orders) PLUS the Amount Allowed Over Percentage.

OR

Advance Trip Cap or Advance Order Cap

LESS ANY

Amount already advanced to the employee for the same order and/or trip.

Additionally, if the Manager Cap Amount is set, then the Manager Cap Amount is the Advance Limit regardless of what maximum is computed for the employee based on the order or trip.

Settings

The following table describes the settings that factor into the Advance Limit.

Advance Setting

Description

Amount Allowed Over Percentage

Manager Cap Amount

These two global settings from the Advance Setup allow you to specify a certain amount over the linehaul percentage that can be advanced to an employee and/or set a hard limit (cap) on the amount that a manager on the branch can advance. NOTE: Manager Cap Amount requires that the user have manager privileges and Full access for the branch on the Advance Management security module.

Refer to Advance Setup for more information.

Advance Cap Trip

Advance Cap Order

You can cap the amount advanced to an employee by setting either a cap amount on the trip and/or order. These two settings are within the Advance tab within Personnel Setup. If amounts are specified within both caps, then the application evaluates both caps and returns a maximum that is the lesser of the two caps.

Line Haul Percentage

The application can be configured to advance a certain percentage to the employee based on the percentage set within the Dispatch tab within their Personnel Setup record.

Discounted Linehaul

Estimated Amount

Trip Balance

The application references these three amounts when determining the Advance Limit.

The amount set within the Discounted Linehaul field within the Move Information tab is used to determine the amount that can be advanced. For Office & Industrial orders, the application references the Estimated Amount set within the Billing Information tab to determine the amount that can be advanced.

The Trip Balance on a Long Distance Dispatch driver is their linehaul percent of the total Discounted Linehaul or Estimated Amount for orders on trip. This amount displays within the Current Driver Activity tab. Linehaul percentage is specified on a driver within the Driver tab of their Personnel Setup record. NOTE: Advances made to a driver on order associated to a trip do not factor into the Trip Balance.

Example

If the follow data is set:

Driver’s linehaul percentage is 20%

Discounted Linehaul of the trip is $5,000

Amount over limit set for the branch is $500

Advance trip cap is $2,500

Manager cap amount is $0

Amount currently advanced to the employee for the trip is $250

Then the Advance Limit is $1,250. The maximum amount that can be advanced to the employee is $1,250. This computes as $5,000 x .20 + $500 = $1,500, which is less than the trip cap of $2,500, then subtract another $250 that is already advanced for the limit of $1,250.

Refer to Driver Advances Setup and Administration for related setup information.
