Moving Words – Politics

“Winning or losing of the election is less important than strengthening the country.” – Indira Gandhi
As we look at the upcoming election, some Americans will be happy, others disappointed as to who’s going to be in the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives over the next few years. But regardless of the outcome, we as a nation will continue to move forward, each individual capable of forging his/her own path.
As one friend told me, “The country has a 200+ year list of good presidents and bad ones…. life still ALWAYS goes on. Good times and tough times are cyclical, and one President (good or bad) doesn’t change the course of any one person’s life in any dramatic and certainly not any dire way.” In other words, in the United States of America we have many opportunities available to each and every American. So, what does this mean for the moving business?
One of the unique aspects of the moving business is regardless of who wins, there are going to be changes of bosses in the multitude of Government agencies. And every one of these changes is going to create a large number of HHG moves. From Senators, Congresspeople, and their staffs; to military personnel to department heads and their employees, all will be either moving out or moving in homes and offices. Each and every one requires a professional mover. So regardless of the winner or the loser, an election is good for the moving business.
I see hope and possibilities for movers, van operators and moving agencies combined regardless of who wins the election. I’ve seen and continue to see remarkable strides and successes from these folks who make up the foundation of the moving industry. Ironically, their success has been in spite of all the regulations that continue to come down the pike from Washington and states’ capitols. And it doesn’t make any difference who’s sitting in the White House or Congress, we’re going to see more of the same as we have in the past from the FMCSA. But we’ll continue to see the moving industry not only survive but thrive. Why? It’s focusing on two things: how to work within the regulations and the system, and providing customer service at rates that are profitable.
When all the mudslinging; promises made, then not kept, and the election is over, and elected officials are all sworn in, we’ll still be in the business of moving family’s and individual’s belongings, and that, my friends, is what really counts.
On election day, vote your conscience, vote your wallet, vote your ideology or just vote!
“Winning the election is a good-news, bad-news kind of thing. Okay, now you’re the mayor. The bad news is, now you’re the mayor.” – Clint Eastwood
